DIY Tutorial: Elastic Fastener | onelmon

Hi all! I’m back with another easy and quick (read: lazy) craft for you and your cables. This is my second post on cable organizer (you might want to check out the first one here!) This is a really simple craft that you can get TWO done in 2 ways under 5 minutes (there’s a lot of numbers here)! Read on!

Halo semuanya! Ayo dicoba!

What you need | Yang anda butuhkan:

  1. Elastic band | Karet celana;
  2. Magnet (with cap) or button | Magnet (dengan kepala) atau kancing;
  3. Scissors | Gunting;
  4. Needle & thread or glue | Jarum & benang atau lem.

Step 1: Grab your elastic band and make a hole big enough for your magnet at the center. Note: I’m using one of those bands from kids’ pants that have been punched with more holes for the button (they are attached inside the belt line for kids with slimmer waist than the average). If you are using the ordinary band, you can just cut the hole yourself, easy :D

Step 2: You’ll get something like this (you can ignore the smaller button holes after it).

Step 3: Sew or glue the end together so they form a kind of loop.

Step 4: Stretch the band’s hole that you created just now so it could fit into the magnet body. Apply some glue on the sides if needed.

Step 5: Repeat for the other end.

Step 6: Take out your cable and snap on!

Langkah 6: Keluarkan kabel anda dan kelip magnetnya!

Next scenario, you think magnets aren’t strong enough and prefer the good old button? Simple. Just swap the magnets for a little button.

Mudah. Cukup ganti kedua magnet dengan sebuah kancing kecil.

Button up and we are done! Note: You can dye the band if you prefer it colorful or you can decorate it with beads and glitter for a more fun-looking fastener. And last but not least, sorry for the ugly and dirty looking cable.

  1. I’ve been trying to figure out how to make something like this; I hate to spend money on something I can make. I love the magnets you used – can you please share where you found them? Did you just sew a button on one end of the elastic?

    • Hi, Babs! You can find those magnets on a stationery store, I think a lot of them are carrying this type of magnet :)
      Yes, the other alternative is just sewing a button at one end of the elastic, very simple! :D

  2. What a great idea, can’t wait to try it! I’d love to have you share this or any of your amazing posts at our weekly Super Saturday Link Party. It starts Friday’s at 6pm, hope we see you there!
